Dear Resident,

White House Farm

The developers have now submitted detailed planning applications for the first phase of the development, the access from the B2178, the country park and playing fields. These do not affect Westgate directly, although when construction starts we are likely to see an increase in traffic in the area. Some information is on the developers’ website (click here) and there was an exhibition of the plans in February at the Baptist Church. If you are concerned, I hope you went along and made your comments.

Our argument with the planners about the way in which planning consent for the “Westgate Improvement Scheme” (WIS) was passed without being referred to the Planning Committee, goes on. I have still not had a direct response from the officers, although our councillors are trying to help. At the committee meeting this month we agreed that the WIS plan is a missed opportunity to improve the environment in Westgate and that we should continue to seek answers.

Chichester Road Space Audit

The consultation on the parking proposals ends on 31 March 2019. The plan proposes extending the Permit Parking area as well as limiting parking to the south side of Westgate from Sherborne Road to Parklands. Links for information on the plan and for online consultation are below and we strongly encourage all residents to provide their own individual feedback.

The Treasurer was able to give us a good report on the finances of the WGRA at the committee meeting. We are trying to build up a fighting fund in case we need to launch any campaign in the future – when phase 2 of the White House Farm development reaches the planning stage, major road issues associated with the “Southern Access Road” are likely to arise and we want to be prepared. We have over 120 households who are now registered to receive this e-mail bulletin, of which about 60 have so far contributed their £10. We look forward to receiving any further contributions, at the coffee mornings or direct to a member of the committee. (The Treasurer, Vince Waldron lives at 72 Westgate.)
